Home Again

Uhoh--here it is the last day of January and I haven't written on this blog in a while. Off to a slow start in '09! And I had promised myself to do better. We were gone for two weeks so that is the main reason. We chose to go on vacation in early January---what nut leaves a tropical climate to go to cold country in mid-January. We did! It really wasn't supposed to be that cold but we were surprised. It is so hard to plan a 2-week wardrobe in 80-degree weather when you are headed north. Layers and layers piled on kept us warm. In spite of the cold air, it was good to get away and most of all to visit with Bob's mom and the Texas side of family. Mom just turned 89 at the beginning of the month and she is perking along very well and happy as a clam in her apartment where she moved almost three years ago. It was the best thing for her and we are all relieved that she no longer has the responsibility of a big house.

Cold weather in the form of snow and ice has hit my hometown. Louisville has the most damaging snow and ice storm ever. Fortunately my relatives have not lost power like so many of the people there. We feel for those enduring the power outages. We know firsthand what it is like except that we never had the cold along with it. Seems weather is wild in all parts of the country and in all seasons.

Update on my recent prayer requests---Brian and Allison are still without jobs. Her mom is also undergoing chemo for breast cancer and my friend, Jane, is also in chemotherapy for metastatic cancer. The list goes on and on of friends with serious illness. Hear our prayers, O Lord!
